One accident, an average of 155 thousand lek in compensation - AMF: Insurance companies continue to increase payments for vehicle damages

After every road accident or damage covered by an insurance policy, the first concern for citizens remains how much money the insurance company actually compensates.
According to the latest data from the Financial Supervisory Authority (AMF), the average claim paid for an accident or insured event in motor insurance was around 155 thousand lek per case in the first quarter of this year. This amount represents the typical compensation that insurance companies pay for repairs or damages related to vehicles.
However, the amount varies depending on the type of insurance. For Casco insurance, which covers damages to the vehicle itself, the average damage has reached around 102 thousand lek per case, marking a significant decrease compared to the first quarter of last year. While for mandatory vehicle insurance within the country, the average damage is estimated at around 162 thousand lek.
In total, for all types of non-life insurance, the average claim paid in the market results in around 110 thousand lek per case, slightly higher than a year ago.
Meanwhile, if we look at the total payments, insurance companies paid about 2.1 billion lek in damages during the quarter, slightly more than in the first quarter of 2025, when payments reached about 1.9 billion lek. So, this is a very slight increase of about 11%.
The majority of these claims come from non-life insurance, which accounts for over 93% of the total, while life insurance accounts for only a small share of the market.
Motor insurance remains the main segment of claims, due to the high number of vehicles and accidents in circulation.
Claims payments by insurance companies have increased significantly in recent years. From around 3.6 billion lek in 2015, they have more than doubled, reaching over 8 billion lek in 2025.
This shows that the role of insurance in the financial protection of citizens and businesses is becoming increasingly important in the economy.
