Negative prices on the stock exchange, ALPEX calls for changes - Proposes minimum price limit in the day-ahead market, to be -50 euros/mWh

The Albanian Electricity Exchange, ALPEX, is seeking the establishment of a minimum allowed price limit in the day-ahead market, arguing that recent changes in European markets have increased cases of very low or negative prices on energy exchanges.
According to the request filed with the Energy Regulatory Authority, the operator of the Albanian-Kosovar energy exchange requests the approval of a minimum price limit of -50 euros/mWh for the day-ahead market. The proposal aims to harmonize the Albanian market with the practices of European exchanges and with the rules of the unification of regional energy markets.
"We have noticed that many of the exchanges have had negative prices and in the case of ALPEX we have seen that in some of the orders we have negative prices placed by the Exchange Members, which we believe also reflects the trend of the regional exchanges in which these Members operate. But even taking into account that in almost all cases the Second Auction mechanism has been activated as a result of the increase in the Minimum Allowed Limit for the Second Auction, 0 €/mWh, we have not seen any intervention by the Members to improve the solution of the Algorithm, the opposite of reaching the Maximum Allowed Price Limit for the Day-Ahead Market in which in almost all cases we have had an improvement in the result of the solution of the Algorithm", - it is stated in the ALPEX request.
Meanwhile, as for the maximum allowed price limit for the day-ahead market, no changes are required, leaving it at +900 euros/mWh.
