Additional measures to prevent road accidents - State Police: Monitoring on national axes and urban centers
In order to prevent road accidents, the Department of Public Order and Security, through the Traffic Police Directorate, has taken a series of additional measures in function of the new method of monitoring road traffic, for the identification and punishment of violators of road traffic rules.
In this context, 22 speed cameras have been calibrated, and all Traffic Police structures have been equipped with drones, cameras, photographic equipment, and breathalyzers and drug testers.

Police services on interurban roads, in accordance with the telegram of the Director General, in order not to stop vehicles on interurban roads without cause, i.e. on national road axes, will continue to monitor traffic through logistical equipment and mobile patrols, and violations found by logistical vehicles will be verbalized in administrative measures, which will be reflected in real time in e-Albania.
Traffic Police patrols on national roads will intervene when they observe aggressive behavior on the road, consecutive overtaking, wrong maneuvers or speeding two to three times, which are a potential risk for involvement in road accidents.
At the same time, cooperation will be established with the National Traffic Monitoring Center, in order to pass on the violations found to the Traffic Police, to complete the administrative measures.
Regarding urban centers, Police services will continue with control groups for alcohol tests, speed checks, wrong overtaking, failure to give priority to pedestrians, use of mobile phones and seat belts.
Given the public's misconception that drivers will not be stopped by patrols, we would like to clarify to the public and road users that:
The tasks set out in Telegram No. 3707, dated 10.04.2026, of the General Director of the State Police, "On taking measures to guarantee the uninterrupted circulation of vehicles", relate to the failure to stop vehicles on national road axes, without cause, creating a bad image.
On national road axes, Traffic Police Patrols monitor traffic and identify traffic violators through technological devices.
Police officers, when they identify and document, through logistical means, aggressive behavior of vehicle drivers, will act in accordance with the Highway Code.
Also, organize checkpoints in urban centers, according to security conditions, under the direction of section heads and heads of sectors of the Traffic Police, according to dedicated plans with a specific objective (controls for alcoholic beverages, use of mobile phones, protective helmets for drivers of motor vehicles, debtor vehicles and "Alert", etc.)
The Traffic Police appeals to all road users to strictly enforce traffic rules.
