Karakaçi inspects works for the Elbasan water supply: Significant improvement in 24-hour supply

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, inspected today the works on the water supply system of the city of Elbasan, an investment financed by the German Bank KfW worth around 13 million euros.
The project has enabled a significant improvement in the drinking water supply in the city, currently providing 24-hour supply to about 60% of the population of Elbasan.
The investment includes the rehabilitation of two existing storage tanks with a capacity of 2000 m³ each, as well as the construction of a new storage tank with the same capacity, divided into two sections. These interventions have increased both the quality and quantity of drinking water, as well as reduced losses in the network.
"After this investment, we are preparing for the next phase that aims to cover 100% of the city with 24-hour water supply ," said Minister Karakaçi, emphasizing that investments will also continue in pumping stations to increase energy efficiency.
He added that the reform in the water supply and sewage sector and the merger of companies has brought about a significant improvement in the financial performance of the company in Elbasan, reaching collection levels of 105%, including arrears. Currently, the Elbasan water supply covers 100% of electricity costs.
The project also includes automation of the water supply system and remote monitoring through a SCADA system, enabling better control of the storage and network, as well as increasing the quality of service for citizens.
The Minister emphasized that other investments in the Elbasan water supply sector will continue in the 2026 budget, with a special focus on increasing energy efficiency and further improving service.
