Energy in the focus of national security - Hima: Cyber protection of networks is vital

Security of electricity supply is becoming increasingly important within the framework of national security, requiring coordinated measures to protect critical infrastructure, strengthen networks, and guarantee continuity of supply in any situation.
This message was conveyed during the international summit "Energy Security - Lessons from Ukraine", held in Berlin, which was attended by representatives of energy institutions from various European countries, including leaders of the Electricity Distribution Operator.
OSHEE Administrator, Mentor Hima, emphasized that expanding energy production from distributed sources and investments in green technologies contribute to increasing the sustainability of the energy system and reducing the risks associated with dependence on a single energy source.
According to him, protecting energy facilities from physical threats and cyberattacks constitutes a strategic priority, while cooperation between European countries remains a key element in guaranteeing energy security in times of crisis.
Hima underlined that Albania is orienting its policies towards diversifying energy production, with investments in solar and wind energy, as well as in battery storage technologies, with the aim of increasing the flexibility of the system and reducing the impact of climatic conditions on domestic production.
He also highlighted the importance of modernizing the grid through intelligent solutions, strengthening cybersecurity mechanisms, and expanding Albania's integration into the regional and European energy market.
According to the OSHEE administrator, ensuring energy security is not measured only by production capacities, but also by the ability to cope with extraordinary situations, to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers and to support the long-term economic stability of the country.
