1.04 billion lek for Tirana–Durrës–Rina trains/ Railways plans tender for construction of mechanical maintenance base

The Albanian Railways has planned to open another tender for the Tirana – Durrës – Rinas line, this time for the construction of the mechanical base for the maintenance of the “DEPO” trains, an investment with a limited fund of around 1.04 billion lek. The project includes the drafting of the detailed project and the construction of the base that will serve for the maintenance and operation of the new trains that are expected to be put into operation with the launch of the railway service.
The tender comes at a time when authorities are accelerating procedures for the finalization of the railway line, considered one of the most important public transport projects in the country. In parallel with the civil works of the line, several other key procedures related to its full operationalization are already underway.
A few days ago, HSH opened the tender for the construction of the 4.2 km segment that will restore the train station in Tirana, with a limit fund of around 1.5 billion lekë. The segment will connect the Public Transport Terminal near the Kamza turn with the Central Station in the capital, integrating the railway line with the urban development of the New Boulevard.
A tender has also been opened for the design and construction of the Rinas railway station building, with a budget of around 91.6 million lek. The project aims to create a modern infrastructure for airport passengers, with access to public transport, parking areas and connections to the relevant terminals.
At the same time, a two-phase procedure for the electrification of the line, led by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is also underway.
According to official data, works on railway infrastructure and signaling-telecommunications systems have advanced over 90%, while the construction of 8 station buildings is expected to be completed during June. Meanwhile, railway operations are expected to begin within 2027.
