Albanians have less life insurance in the region/ Xprimm Report: Albanians do not invest much in financial protection

Compared to countries in the region and beyond, Albanians are the ones who insure their lives the least. According to the latest Xprimm report for 2025, life insurance in Albania has continued to remain at very low levels compared to other insurance products.
Specifically, life insurance in our country accounts for only 9% of the premium portfolio in all insurance companies, while in other countries in the region and Central and Eastern Europe this weight is significantly higher. In Hungary, life insurance accounts for over 41% of the total premium portfolio, in Slovakia about 36%, while in Poland and Slovenia over 27%. Even the growth of premiums for this product in Albania has been lower compared to countries such as Hungary, Romania or North Macedonia.
However, regarding the domestic MTPL product, which refers to motor vehicle insurance for third-party liability in cases where the insured is involved in an accident and is liable for material, property or health damages, Albania remains the country with the highest dependence on this product in all of Central and Eastern Europe. According to 2025 data, MTPL accounts for about 62% of the premium portfolio in all insurance companies in Albania, a significantly higher percentage than in other countries in the region.
On the other hand, property insurance is presented at almost the same levels in all Western Balkan countries. Despite the fact that this region is quite exposed to natural disasters, climate-related risks such as fires, floods and others, awareness of property protection against such threats remains low. In Albania, property insurance accounts for only about 10% of total premiums.
If we make a calculation based on the amount of premiums, Poland remains the largest life insurance market in the Central and Eastern European region, with over 5.8 billion euros in premiums in 2025. Meanwhile, Albania continues to remain among the smallest markets, with only around 25 million euros in life insurance premiums. Even countries with smaller or similar populations to Albania, such as North Macedonia or Montenegro, present higher levels of insurance awareness, which is reflected in the higher ratio of premiums to the economy and total insurance portfolio.
