USA, impressive start to the World Cup/ Some of Hollywood's biggest names

The United States kicked off their World Cup campaign with a dominant 4-1 win over Paraguay in Los Angeles. Goals from Giovanni Reyna and Folarin Balogun, along with a little help from a Paraguayan own goal, proved too much for the South American side as former Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino's side cruised to victory. Despite the intense pressure of the occasion, the Americans were brilliant in the opening 45 minutes before a stylish away goal sealed the victory late in the match. It was an energetic and extremely promising performance from a nation that had long hoped to join the elite ranks of international football.

The USA will undoubtedly face tougher challenges if they advance in the tournament, but the win over Paraguay should not be underestimated. Paraguay posted some strong results in the qualifying stage, beating Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina at home.

Speaking after the match, US forward Christian Pulisic, who was substituted at half-time as a precaution due to injury, said it was "just the beginning of a long journey."

Some of Hollywood's biggest names were in attendance at the match at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium, including Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio. English football legend David Beckham was also at the game along with his wife, singer and fashion designer Victoria Beckham.

Co-host Canada also made a good start to the tournament, drawing 1-1 against a strong Bosnia and Herzegovina team.

The 2026 tournament is the biggest World Cup of all time, with the expanded format seeing a record 1,248 players from 48 teams taking part in matches in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
