We are buying imported products cheaper/ Prices decreased by 0.5%, with the largest decrease in the energy sector
Statistics for the third quarter of the year show a slight decline in import prices, signaling that foreign products are being purchased cheaper compared to the same period a year ago. The import price index for this period reached 107.4, taking 2021 as a base year.
Compared to the third quarter of 2024, the index marked a decrease of 0.5%, although this decrease is lighter than that of the previous year, which was -1.3%. Also, compared to the second quarter of this year, the import price index has suffered a slight decrease of 0.2%, confirming a downward trend in prices.
In annual terms, the largest decrease was recorded in the section "Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning" with 4.6%, followed by "Water supply, waste treatment and management" with 0.7%, as well as "Manufacturing industry", which also accounts for the largest share of imports (94%), with a decrease of 0.3%.
Within the manufacturing industry, the most significant price decline was observed in food processing by 1.7%, followed by wood and wood products by 1.2%, clothing manufacturing by 0.8%, beverage manufacturing by 0.6%, and chemicals and chemical products manufacturing by 0.5%. Meanwhile, the extractive industry recorded a slight increase of 0.4%, moving in the opposite direction to most other sectors.
On the other hand, some activities have recorded price increases. “Other industries pkt” increased by 1.3%, followed by manufacture of tobacco products by 1.1% and printing and reproduction of recorded media by 0.8%.
The comparison with the second quarter of 2025 also shows a similar trend. Prices in the electricity, gas and steam sector fell by 1.1%, while the manufacturing industry experienced a slight decrease of 0.1%. Meanwhile, the water supply and waste management sector recorded an increase of 0.9%.
Within the manufacturing industry, the largest price decreases in quarterly comparison were recorded in food processing (-1.3%), production of chemicals and chemical products (-0.9%) and textile processing (-0.6%). In contrast, price increases were observed in the production of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment by 0.8% and in the production of tobacco products by 0.7%.
Overall, the data show that, despite some isolated increases in certain sectors, the overall trend of import prices during the third quarter remains slightly downward, which translates into a relatively lower cost of imported goods for the economy.
