March marks a positive balance for Albanian tourism / Foreign visitors and hotel stays increase significantly
Tourism in Albania continues to show signs of growth even outside the summer season. During March, the number of visitors accommodated in accommodation structures in the country increased by 20.8% compared to the same period a year ago, indicating that interest in Albania as a destination is expanding, especially from foreign tourists.
According to the data, non-resident visitors led the growth during the month, with an expansion of 23.7%, while resident tourists recorded an increase of 15.9%. This change comes after the first two months of the year, where resident visitors had maintained the highest growth rate. The data shows that Albania is increasingly attracting the attention of foreign tourists even in periods that were traditionally considered quieter for the sector.
Overnight stays in accommodation facilities have also continued the positive trend, increasing by 12.8% compared to March last year. Resident visitors recorded a 9.8% increase in overnight stays, while non-resident tourists recorded an even stronger expansion, by 14.4%. This shows that not only the number of tourists is increasing, but also the duration of their stay in the country.
The central region remains the most popular destination for tourists, registering around 62 thousand visitors in accommodation facilities. Meanwhile, the northern region ranks second with around 31 thousand visitors, while the southern region registered around 16 thousand visitors. In total, during the month of March, approximately 108 thousand visitors were registered in hotels and other accommodation facilities throughout the country.
Regarding the origin of foreign tourists, Italians continue to dominate with 30% of the total number of non-resident visitors who were accommodated in Albania. They are followed by Kosovo with 12%, Germany with 7%, while visitors from the United Kingdom and France account for 6% and 5% of the total, respectively. A significant portion, around 40%, comes from other countries, which shows the expansion of the map of tourists who are choosing Albania.
The increase in visitor numbers has also been reflected in hotel performance. The room occupancy rate reached 18.5% during March, up from 18.1% in the same period in 2025. Although the increase seems modest, it confirms the positive trend of the tourism industry and the gradual expansion of the tourist season in the country.
