Malaj: Government reduces fuel excise by 20% if prices rise above threshold

The Albanian government has approved a Normative Act to reduce fuel excise duty, as a measure to cope with the increase in prices in international markets, affected by the conflict in Iran.

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, announced that the 20% excise tax reduction will be applied if the retail price, determined by the Transparency Board, exceeds 220 lek per liter for diesel and 200 lek per liter for gasoline.

According to him, this measure aims to cushion the impact of price increases on citizens and businesses, providing protection in a difficult international situation.

The Normative Act will remain in force until markets stabilize, while the government emphasizes its commitment to simultaneously protect the economy and the state budget from the effects of the global crisis.
