"EU increases the standard of trade of Albanian products" - Musabelliu: 65% of technical legislation for the free movement of goods has been harmonized

With Albania's membership in the European Union, the standards that an Albanian business must meet to market products in the domestic or foreign market will also increase.
In the Parliamentary Committee for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation, Enkelejd Musabelliu, stated that regarding the first chapter on the free movement of goods, the partial transposition of the legislation has begun since the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, therefore it is estimated that around 65% of our technical legislation in terms of rules and products is aligned with the European Union level.
"We have always had competition from European products. Meanwhile, what changes is another element, that the standards for operating in the Albanian market for small Albanian producers will have to be aligned with the standards of the European Union, which means that the national standard will increase, but not that we will be exposed to a competition that we have not had to date. This will depend greatly on the level of preparation that the business itself will have ," said the Deputy Minister.
Currently, a national program is being designed to prepare businesses for the European single market, in order to inform them, increase their capacities, and understand the impact that each directive will have on specific businesses.
"There are businesses in Albania today that produce non-food goods, which export to European Union countries, and these businesses will absolutely be facilitated even more on the day of membership, while we may have businesses that do not currently export, but trade in the domestic market, which will need to raise their standards in order to function in the domestic market in Albania as well ," stressed Musabelliu.
Regarding Chapter 30 on Foreign Relations, Musabelliu stated that Albania is in an advanced phase of alignment.
