The old-age dependency ratio, defined as the percentage of elderly individuals (aged 65 and over) relative to the working-age population (people aged 20 to 64), has increased significantly in the last 20 years.
In the EU, on January 1, 2024, the ratio was 37%, indicating that there were less than 3 adults of working age for every elderly person. But how do these data present themselves for Albania? On January 1, 2024, the elderly dependency ratio was 31.1%. According to INSTAT data, this ratio increased in January of this year, reaching 33.3%, getting closer to the EU average. But how do the data for 2024 present themselves in comparison to Albania and other countries in the region and Europe?
