Albania leads Europe in the growth of tourist overnight stays / Over 3 million were registered in the first half of the year alone

The European Statistical Agency has recently published data on tourist overnight stays for the second quarter of the year. According to the statistics, during this period, 826.1 million overnight stays were realized in tourist accommodations in the EU on the continent. This represents an increase of 40.2 million nights (+5.1%) compared to the second quarter of 2024. The increase was observed at the EU level and in all countries for which data was available.
How is the situation in Albania?
According to the data, during these three months, about 2.3 million overnight stays were recorded in the country, with an increase of 32.5% compared to the same period a year ago. Of this figure, about 1.7 million overnight stays were realized by foreign tourists and 569 thousand by domestic tourists. Albania turns out to be the country with the highest growth in Europe and the region for this quarter, compared to last year.
In the region, Kosovo and North Macedonia recorded increases of 7.2% and 20%, respectively, while Montenegro and Serbia recorded decreases of 0.4% and 6.1%.
In the 6-month period, Albania has recorded over 3 million overnight stays in total, of which about 840 thousand were from resident visitors and 2.2 million from non-resident visitors. For this period too, our country ranks first in Europe.
Regarding preferred accommodations in the second quarter, hotels remain the main choice of tourists. However, short-term accommodations (+43.3%) and campsites (+47.6%) have also recorded significant growth. In addition to Albania, countries such as Malta, Poland and Slovakia have also recorded growth.
