Where are most foreign languages spoken in Albania? Men dominate in all districts, except Tirana

According to data published by INSTAT, as a result of Cens 2023, it is found that out of 2.4 million inhabitants, 91% of them speak Albanian as their mother tongue, while 37,033 citizens speak at least one other language and 13,719 of them speak several languages foreigners.
"Scan Intel" has analyzed the data to understand how many of the respondents speak several foreign languages at the county level. According to the calculations, Gjirokastra turns out to have more individuals who speak at least one other language or several other languages. Specifically, out of 60,013 respondents, 15.7% are connoisseurs and speakers of foreign languages.
Next is the district of Kukes with nearly 2,600 individuals who know foreign languages or 4.1% of the total number of people who are part of the survey. Also, Dibra and Korça have a significant percentage of people who speak languages other than their mother tongue with 2.4% and 2.2% respectively. What stands out when processing the numbers is that Tirana is ranked 7th after Vlora and Durrës. The figures show that in Vlora and Durrës we have 1.9% and 1.7% of the respondents who speak or know foreign languages, while in the capital this percentage is reduced to 1.2%. In counties like Gjirokastra and Korça, individuals tend to follow and study several languages simultaneously.
In contrast, in Fier, Shkodër, Lezhë, Berat and Elbasan, the percentage of people who speak international languages is less than 1% in each district respectively. In fact, the percentage of those who speak these languages is a minimum of 0.3% and a maximum of 0.8%, i.e. a significantly lower percentage compared to other counties.
But how does the gap in knowledge of foreign languages appear between Albanian women and men? In all regions of the country, except Tirana, men prevail over women in terms of knowledge of foreign languages. This gap is deeper in Kukës and Vlorë, this is also due to high emigration, especially in the Kukës district. Conversely, in the capital there are twice as many women as men who know at least one or several foreign languages.
