Germans in Kosovo, Italians in Albania/ The geography of visitors between the two countries presents differences
Tourism has become one of the most dynamic and fastest growing sectors in the region, especially in recent years after the end of the pandemic. Albania and Kosovo have benefited significantly from this development, becoming increasingly popular destinations for domestic and foreign visitors.
Cheaper costs, an increase in airline connections and improved tourism infrastructure are just some of the indicators that testify to this progress. Monthly statistics on the movement of citizens and tourists show an intensive circulation, especially between Albania and Kosovo, where cooperation and cultural and tourist exchanges have always been strong and stable.
According to an analysis by “Scan Intel”, the month of April was taken into consideration to reflect the current state of tourism between the two countries. Where do visitors come from in each Albanian country? Data from the “Institute of Statistics” show that during the month of April, around 213 thousand visitors were registered in accommodation structures in Albania, of which over 64 thousand were foreign tourists. At the same time, according to the “Kosovo Agency of Statistics”, the number of visitors who were accommodated in Kosovo in April was around 32 thousand. This month, Kosovo hosted around 15 thousand Albanians while Albania hosted around 8,900 Kosovo citizens.
When it comes to foreign tourists, Albania welcomed the most visitors from Italy, representing around 10,200 of the total visits in April, followed by Kosovo in second place. Meanwhile, 5,100 visitors came from Germany and 3,842 from the United Kingdom. Kosovo, on the other hand, in addition to Albanians from Albania who remain the largest group of visitors, welcomed over 3,600 German tourists, which is the second highest group after Albanians from Albania. Turkey and Switzerland also continue to be important sources of tourists for Kosovo, with 3,066 and 3,021 visitors respectively.
These figures are clear evidence that tourism is becoming a key driver of development for both countries. Albania and Kosovo are not only increasing the number of visitors, but are also building a sustainable tourism profile, which is based on natural, cultural values and traditional hospitality. With continued investment, strategic promotion and a special emphasis on sustainable tourism, both countries have the potential to position themselves worthily on the international tourism map, as truly authentic and attractive destinations.
