Over 2 thousand new businesses opened in April - 12% more than in 2025, self-employed dominate

Over 2,000 new businesses opened in Albania in April 2026, marking a 12% increase compared to April 2025.
According to data from the National Business Center (NBC), specifically in April 2026, 2009 new entities were registered, up from 1793 in the same period a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the total number of applications in the registers reached 14,615, up from 13,873 applications in April last year, or 5.35% more.
The increase in new registrations is mainly supported by Tirana, which continues to hold the main weight of economic activity with 1026 entities registered in just one month. It is followed by Vlora with 260 registrations and Durrës with 225.
According to data from the Commercial Registry, businesses with 100% Albanian capital continue to dominate the market, with 1,762 entities registered in April 2026, while 212 entities result with entirely foreign capital and 32 with joint Albanian and foreign capital.
The majority of new registrations belong to the "Natural person" category, with 1,534 registrations, while 469 limited liability companies were also registered.
The sectors with the highest activity during April 2026 were wholesale and retail trade, with 479 registrations, accommodation and food services with 341 entities, and administrative and support services with 151 registrations. Construction, information and communication, transport and storage, and real estate also showed significant activity.
The data also shows that during April 2026, 629 entities managed by women were registered.
The Registry of Permits, Licenses and Authorizations recorded 201 permits and licenses during the month of April. Of these, 34 were permits, mainly for the environment and fishing, while 167 were licenses related to medical services, travel agencies, tour operators, food trade, pharmacy and international transport.
Meanwhile, 496 entities were registered in the Registry of Beneficial Owners during April 2026, dominated by limited liability companies with 466 registrations.
According to the report, the number of applications received in the registries during April 2026 reached 12,491 for the Commercial Register, 1,196 for the Register of Permits and Licenses, and 928 for the Register of Beneficial Owners.
