Albanian Customs and the Italian Customs Agency agree on a technical solution to the problem of wine imports from the neighboring country
Italian Customs have notified the Director General of Albanian Customs, Besmir Beja, of the acceptance of the proposal to resolve the current situation affecting these imports, also in accordance with the Italian legislation in force.
Albanian Customs invites all importers to continue imports according to the procedures in force and detailed technical clarifications that will be published on the official customs website.
Operators importing wine from Italy have been facing increased excise tax payments since the beginning of this year, due to the non-application of the differentiation provided for in the law.
The Albanian legal framework differentiates the excise duty level between imported wine from producers with an annual production of up to 10 thousand hectoliters/year and producers with a production of over 10 thousand hectoliters/year. The production threshold is the essence of what is in practice called differentiated excise duty.
