The new generation, far from competing for leadership positions - Report/ One

Gen Z and millennials are increasingly placing a premium on professional development and work-life balance. According to a recent report, only 6% of Gen Zers say their top career goal is to reach a leadership position at a company. However, that doesn't mean they lack ambition.

Data shows that learning and skill development rank among the top reasons why young people choose a job, right after work-life balance and career advancement opportunities. About 70% of Gen Z say they develop their professional skills at least once a week.

However, many of them feel that managers are not fully fulfilling their role in this process. Young people expect more guidance, mentoring and support, while they often face a focus from managers on overseeing daily tasks.

At the same time, a significant portion of young people are also reconsidering the importance of higher education. About a third of Gen Z and millennials say they have chosen not to attend university, mainly due to high costs and doubts about whether studies provide enough practical experience for the job market.

Meanwhile, the use of generative artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly common in everyday work. Over half of young people use it for data analysis, content creation and project management. Although they see it as a tool that increases productivity, they express concerns that the technology could reduce jobs in the future.

For this reason, in addition to technical skills, young people increasingly value soft skills, such as empathy, communication, and leadership, which are considered essential in a rapidly transforming job market.
