Electricity prices eased - Bulgaria and Slovenia receive EU approval for schemes

The European Commission said it has approved state aid schemes to provide temporary electricity price relief for energy-intensive companies in Bulgaria and Slovenia over the next three years.
The budgets of the schemes are 334 million euros for Bulgaria and 90 million euros for Slovenia, the EU's executive arm said in a press release.
The measures will be available to businesses active in sectors that carry a significant risk of activities being relocated outside the EU to countries where environmental measures are absent or less ambitious. The risk is measured based on the electro-energy intensity of the sector in question and its openness to international trade.
The Bulgarian scheme will cover the period between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2028, with the aid to be paid through electricity suppliers via a reduction in the beneficiaries' monthly electricity bill.
The Slovenian measure will extend from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028, and the EU will pay the aid twice a year based on projected electricity consumption.
The measures were adopted under the EU State Aid Framework for the Clean Industry Deal, adopted in 2025, which aims to support member states in the development of clean energy, industrial decarbonisation and clean technology.
